FAQ

  • What services do you offer?
Mooving Speech provides individualized speech‑language therapy for adults, as well as children and teens. All services are delivered one‑to‑one and are carefully tailored to your needs or your child’s needs, strengths, and goals. Support may include speech sound disorders, language delays, fluency, social communication, and communication differences related to developmental or acquired conditions.

    Where does therapy take place?
Therapy is offered in two formats:

    • In‑home therapy (availability varies) in Cochrane and select surrounding communities.

    • Online teletherapy for families anywhere in Alberta using secure video conferencing.

We’ll talk through which option makes the most sense for you or your child during your consultation.

Do you offer both in‑person and virtual options?

Yes. Some families choose one format, while others use a combination over time depending on schedules, goals, and availability.

  • How long are therapy sessions?

    • In‑home sessions are 50 minutes.

    • Teletherapy sessions are 50 minutes or 25 minutes.

How often will my child attend therapy?
Many children start with weekly sessions to build momentum. Bi‑weekly or other schedules may also be appropriate depending on goals, progress, and funding. Therapy frequency is reviewed regularly and adjusted as needed.

What happens during a typical session?
Sessions are structured to include specific, individualized therapy targets. Activities are selected based on what the adult or child is interested in, motivated by, and needs to work on, helping therapy feel meaningful, relevant, and functional. Time may also be spent reviewing strategies to support carryover outside of sessions.

How soon will we see progress?

Progress varies for every child and depends on their profile, goals, and consistency with therapy and home practice. Families are provided with simple strategies between sessions to help support growth.

  • What are your rates?

    • In‑home sessions: $150 for 50 minutes, plus mileage

    • Teletherapy sessions:

      • 50 minutes – $135

      • 25 minutes – $65

How does mileage work for in‑home sessions?
Mileage is calculated from Cochrane, Alberta, to your home and back using the most reasonable driving route. The current rate is $0.72 per kilometre, and mileage is clearly itemized on your invoice.

    How do payments work?
Payments are processed through the secure Jane app.  Invoices and receipts are stored in your client portal and can be downloaded anytime.

    Will I get a receipt?
Yes—receipts include credentials, dates, session length, fees, and mileage.

Is speech therapy covered by Alberta Health Care?
Private speech‑language therapy is not covered by Alberta Health Care. Families typically pay privately and seek reimbursement through extended health benefits or other funding sources if available.

Will my extended health benefits cover speech therapy?
Many benefit plans include some coverage for services provided by a registered Speech‑Language Pathologist. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend confirming annual limits, per‑session maximums, and referral requirements with your provider.

Do you direct bill insurance or FSCD?
Direct billing is not offered at this time. Session fees are paid by the family at or shortly after the appointment. Detailed receipts are provided and may be submitted for reimbursement to private insurance or FSCD, depending on your funding agreement.

Mooving Speech is a private, independent practice. Service rates reflect current private practice standards for speech‑language pathology services in the Greater Calgary area and may exceed standard FSCD reimbursement rates.

  • Who do you work with?
Mooving Speech provides services for toddlers, children, teens, and adults with a wide range of communication needs.

Can you work with individuals with different diagnoses or communication needs?

Yes. Therapy supports communication challenges related to developmental conditions, acquired conditions, neurodiversity, medical events, and life transitions across the lifespan, using individualized, strengths-based approaches.

  • How do I book an appointment?
Start by requesting a free consultation through the website’s contact or intake form. During this call, we’ll discuss your concerns, answer questions, and decide on next steps if it feels like a good fit.

    Do I need a doctor’s referral?

A referral is not required for private speech‑language therapy. Some insurance plans or funding programs may request one, so it’s helpful to check your specific coverage.
